Many magical creatures have seen urban sprawl and cultivation of lands invade their natural habitat but the western porcuval is a most opportunistic creature and has certainly made the best of a bad situation. I am of course, talking about mugwump farms.
Many mugwump farmers of the midwestern prairies have done battle against the clever and cunning western porcuval. Farmers complain not only of the wily, lithe creature getting into their mugwump coops no matter what manner of wire, wood or spell they cast but also of the porcuval seeming downright contemptuous of the farmers’ attempts to keep them out. When a porcuval decimates a mugwump coop, the farmer almost always takes it personally and one has to wonder if that is the intent of the porcuval. Despite its lovely golden-red appearance and fine quills, the creature seems to be a bit of a jerk.
From what we know, the eyes on its back are vestigial and function only to make others think they’re being watched. The quills also seem to serve no defensive purpose other than to make the creature appear unpleasantly prickly. Farmers have found an excellent natural repellent as the porcuval cannot stand cilantro but this only works if the farmer does not also have a strong aversion to cilantro.
