The Empathomoth is an interesting juxtaposition to the Mycoltl. Also an emotional eater, the Empathomoth feeds off of the activation energy of turning negative emotions into positive emotions. (The two magical creatures live in wildly different ecosystems or else they might have a very curious hunting symbiosis.)
When an Empathomoth detects that another creature is experience emotions of fear, confusion or sadness, it will stalk and “snuggle” its prey with famously warm hugs. Of course as there is always a healthy market for endless warm hugs, across the ages the commercial market has sent many exploratory committees to discover how to domesticate the Empathomoth. From the Pitts-Lawson expedition of 1692 to the recent Kroucek-Smith expedition (funded by Titan Toy co.) no expedition has been successful in containing the Empathomoth, though most of the explorers reported feeling much better afterwards. As it turns out, the Empathomoth is exceptionally strong and willful and is able to resist capture. No Empathomoth has ever been seen in captivity. Companies are now focusing on creating a synthetic or spell equivalent of the Empathomoth snuggle abilities.
The Empathomoth is blind, but has vestigial eyes, images of which have been adopted for many modern magical fashion trends.
